Bhuvneshwar Kumar feels pacers got “carried away” when they should have been more patient

As soon as the covers came off on Day 1 and Lakmal bowled the first ball of the game, every Indian fan would have have been excited to see what the Indian trio of Bhuvneshwar, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammad Shami would do on the wicket. And it was the same for the three Indian pacers in question as well. However, by the time they got the leather in their hands, it wasn’t the same pitch anymore and the bowlers were not getting the same purchase as their Sri Lankan counterparts. 

“We bowled some bad balls and could have improved on that but the wicket got a lot better from the first two days. That was evident from how our batsmen were batting. Hence, we are not completely satisfied…,” Bhuvneshwar said at the Day 4 press conference, reported PTI.

The pacers accounted for all the wickets as Bhuvneshwar and Shami claimed four apiece while Umesh got the other two. While the performance cannot be called a bad one by any stretch of imagination, the pacer was the first one to admit that they could have done better.

“When we were watching Sri Lanka bowl, we are all excited to bowl on this wicket. But the wicket had totally changed. As pacers, we had discussed wanting to make the most of this kind of wicket. Yes, we tried too hard instead of being more patient. But we got some rhythm here and this should help us in the remaining Tests,” he added.
