India vs New Zealand | Kane Williamson blames bowling for defeat in Delhi

Shikhar Dhawan (80) and Rohit Sharma (80) created a record opening stand of 158 runs which helped Team India to post an enormous total of 202 and later the team’s all-round performance helped the hosts register a 53-run win in the first T20I of the series against New Zealand.

According to the New Zealand skipper Williamson, their poor bowling performance was one of the main reasons for the loss as the team conceded at an average of more than 10 runs per over. He admitted that Indian team performed really well in all departments, as after putting a massive total they also restricted the visitors to a meager score of 149/8. 

"It was a disappointing performance tonight. We were very poor on the field. India played superbly. There are no excuses. We needed to play better. India were outstanding and never gave us a sniff," Williamson said post the match as quoted by News18. 

"The spinners bowled really well but the bowlers around them went for a lot of runs." 

The first T20I of the series made headlines because of veteran Ashish Nehra, who was playing his last international game. He not only delivered the first and last over of the game but also bowled an economical spell giving away just 29 runs in his allotted four overs. The Indian team gave him a great farewell as he was carried around the Kotla on Virat Kohli and Dhawan's shoulders. The New Zealand captain also lauded him for his long career.

"I want to congratulate Ashish on a fantastic career. I have played against him and with him, always a gentleman on and off the field," Williamson said.

The second T20I of the series will be played on November 4 in Rajkot.
