WATCH | Smith denied review for trying to consult dressing room after Kohli intervenes

The incident occurred in the 21st over when Smith was trapped plumb in front of his stumps when an Umesh Yadav ball stayed low. Having already used a review for David Warner, the Australians appeared to be deciding whether or not to use their final one. Smith was looking towards the dressing room for a signal to make a decision, something that caught Kohli's eye.

Things escalated pretty quickly after that as Kohli confronted Smith and approached the umpire to discuss the matter. The rules of usage of DRS clearly state that 'signals from dressing room must not be given', and Kohli asked the umpire to reject the review appeal - something the umpire agreed with.

The two captains exchanged a few words as Smith made his way back to the pavilion. However, even if Smith had been able to take the review, the result would have been exactly the same as the ball would have smashed into middle stump. 

One wonders how the Australians who have shown themselves to be experts of the DRS did not read the manual well enough to know that they cannot consult the dressing room? Or was it deliberate hoping that he would not be caught?
