Thakur is the second signing Pune have made outside the IPL auction after picking up Mayank Agarwal from Delhi Daredevils in January. The Maharashtra-born pacer has been a regular for Mumbai since making his first-class debut in 2012. However, he has failed to make an impact in the IPL so far.
Thakur’s only IPL appearance came against Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla, conceding 38 runs in three overs for one wicket. He was bought for Rs 20 lakhs by the Punjab-based franchise back then but was asked to leave midway through the tournament after the side's campaign went haywire.
Pune have made some major changes for the coming season including the removal of MS Dhoni as captain and buying England's Ben Stokes for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore at the auction. Thakur’s inclusion will add further depth to their bowling lineup which already consists of the likes of Stokes, Ashoke Dinda, Adam Zampa, and Jayadev Unadkat.
