Wriddhiman Saha : We cannot underestimate Bangladesh

Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has said that India will not take Bangladesh lightly in the one-off Test, which starts on February 9 in Hyderabad. Although Saha is now playing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 for Bengal, he has stressed that switching to the Test format would not be an issue for him.

Wriddhiman Saha had developed a strain in his left thigh during the second Test match against England at Visakhapatnam, which resulted in missing the next three Tests of the series. However, he made a stunning return to the cricket field by scoring a career-best 203 not out in first-class cricket for Rest of India in the Irani Cup.

Saha, who helped Bengal win the East Zone Syed Mushtaq Ali T20, said that the team won’t take Bangladesh lightly.

“Ranking-wise one may think they will be easier opponents on paper. But we cannot underestimate them before taking on to the field. It all depends on the situation on a given day. We have to approach the situation accordingly,” Saha told PTI in Kolkata.

“Everyone wants do well on the field. You may not do what you think. It’s about converting your thoughts into a good performance.”

The one-off Test against Bangladesh will act as an audition for the four-match Test series against Australia, which starts on February 23 in Pune. However, Saha decided to not think about that series at this point.

“I don’t know when are the Aussies coming but as of now the focus is on Bangladesh Test. After they’re here we will think about it,” he said.

On being asked about switching from the T20 mode to the Test format, Saha said, “It’s difficult to be consistent in Twenty20 format. But we have done well in all the three — bowling, batting and fielding — departments of the game. It’s an outstanding show.

“It’s all about the mindset and the right ball to choose. Having played for so many years, it would not be an issue. Now it’s time to shift focus to Test format, it would not be a problem though.

“I will think after reaching there tomorrow morning. My approach remains the same,” Saha concluded.
