BCCI announces open tender process for IPL TV rights

The BCCI have announced an open tender process, which will remain open for a month from September 19, for the Television and digital rights of the Indian Premier League. Currently, Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) hold the rights which is set to expire after the tenth edition of the league.

The governing board of cricket in India, the BCCI, has announced an open tender process for the broadcast rights of Indian Premier League. But by scraping the first rights of refusal to SPNI, the BCCI are set to go with a process which is open for all.

The time duration for the bid of the tender will be available for a month from September 19.

The BCCI, which was supposed to give SPNI the first right of refusal, opened the tender for all on the back of the recommendations of the Lodha Committee. Star India are the most likely of all to bag the rights whereas Sony Pictures also have plans in place to acquire the rights of the tournament.  

In 2008, World Sports Group (WSG) had bagged the rights of the tournament for a year and subsequently renewed it for nine more years after the rapid success of the cash-rich league. Sony was the official broadcaster of the IPL after WSG signed a deal with Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. (MSM).
