India Test regulars to earn 1.65 crore by March 2017

The BCCI has announced a massive hike in the salary of its Test cricketers, more than doubling their per match pay from rupees seven lakhs to a whopping Rs 15 lakhs. The annual subsidy for its full member associations has also seen a jump of Rs 10 crore from the current subsidy of Rs 60 crore.

The BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM), which was originally scheduled for Friday to reconsider and assess the Lodha committee recommendations, was postponed to Saturday morning and the announcements regarding players salaries and member association subsidies were made after a working committee meeting.

The pay hike was spread evently across both the playing XI and the reserves – from Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs for the first XI and from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh for the reserves.

“I have always maintained that we need to do more for Test cricket and cricketers both, and this is the first step in that direction,”BCCI president Anurag Thakur was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The hike means that that a Test team regular could earn upto Rs 1.65 crore from now until March 2017 during which India are scheduled to play another 11 matches in its long 13-Test home season.

The annual subsidy for full members was increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70 crore.
