Misbah slapped with one-Test ban for slow over-rate

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq was slapped with a one-Test suspension and fined 40 per cent of his match fees for slow over-rate in the first Test against New Zealand in Christchurch last week which the visitors lost by eight wickets.
Misbah was anyway set to miss the second Test starting in Hamilton on Nov 25 as he has travelled back home to attend the funeral of his father-in-law.
The rest of the team was fined 20% of their match fees after the side was ruled to have been two overs short of its target of 103 overs after time allowances were taken into account.
This was the second over-rate offense by the Pakistan skipper in Test cricket in five months following the Oval Test against England in August.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees while the captain is fined double the amount for each single over the side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Misbah’s ban will not be carried over to the next Test or the next series. “The Code provides for a suspension to be carried forward to a subsequent match if the match where the suspension applies is canceled, postponed or abandoned, which is not the case here,” the ICC statement said.
