Haseeb Hameed became the youngest player to debut for England at the age of 19 years 297 days after being picked in the squad following impressive performances in the County Championship Division One, where he top-scored for Lancashire with 1,198 runs in 16 matches at an average of 49.91.
"Well, like every parent, I too was a bit nervous when he walked out to bat. But, once he settled in, all of us enjoyed his knock. His ability to stay focused has helped immensely in his steady rise, and hopefully, he will only get better from here," Hameed Sr, who watched the day’s play proceedings from the stands, told the Times of India.
“I remember, we were in Mumbai in 2004 and he went to the MIG Club where he watched Sachin Tendulkar bat in the nets. He was very excited and kept asking me about Sachin.
“I explained to him that he had seen the greatest batsman in the world, and then he said he wanted to become a batsman and play for England one day," said Hameed Senior, who moved to Bolton from Surat almost three decades ago.
