‘Behave’ like role models : BCCI to Team India

The images of players relaxing on the beach with beer bottles in their hands appeared in the social media two days back after some of the cricketers posted the images through their official handles. The outing at St. Nevis, a popular beach, was organised between the two warm-up matches.

The pictures of KL Rahul with a beer bottle in his hand was one of the images that caught the attention of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. In the picture, which was later deleted, the Indian opener was seen alongside all-rounder Stuart Binny, pacer Umesh Yadav, and a support staff member. According to reports, the Board has issued an advisory to the team through team manager Riyaz Bagwan following the incident.

Many kids blindly follow the star cricketers’ actions on and off the field, so our boys have got to always keep that in mind. They should always consider the sense and sensitivities of Indian cricket fans."

“Some of the BCCI officials aren’t happy with players posting such images on social media. There has been no written communication, but the manager has been asked to send a message to the players to ensure that nothing that could set a bad example should be posted online,” a BCCI insider told The on Thursday.

The BCCI’s diktat may seem too harsh, but the Board officials believe that the cricketers should behave like role models.

“Many kids blindly follow the star cricketers’ actions on and off the field, so our boys have got to always keep that in mind. They should always consider the sense and sensitivities of Indian cricket fans,” said another BCCI official, preferring anonymity, reported the Hindu.
