“Experience matters a lot. Yuvraj Singh is a massive match-winner in this format. He will continue to play a big part for the Indian squad,” Akram wrote for Times of India.
Yuvraj Singh, who was reinstated in the Indian T20 squad for the Australian tour, did not get a chance to bat in the first two matches, but came out at number 5 in the third ODI, where his fireworks in the last over ignited India's race to the win and a 3-0 series whitewash of Australia.
Akram feels that Yuvraj should be promoted up the batting order, specially in the absence of Virat Kohli, who has been rested for the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka.
“With Virat resting, I would like to see Yuvraj bat higher up. The left-hander will gain confidence by being out in the middle. Ravi Shastri has a shrewd cricket brain and he knows how to manage players. When a senior player makes a comeback it is important to nurse him through the early days. They will take time to re-adjust to the environment, so the team management has a vital role to play,” he added.
