BCCI vs Lodha : Supreme Court moves hearing date to December 9

On October 1, during its first Special General Meeting (SGM), the BCCI decided to implement only a part of the recommendations proposed by the Lodha Committee in order to make the cricket administration in India more transparent. Miffed by these decisions taken by the Board, the Supreme Court threatened to replace the main members of the board including the likes of President Anurag Thakur and Chief Secretary Ajay Shirke with its own appointments. 

But after hearing the BCCI's arguments on October 21, the SC passed an interim order asking them to stop disbursing funds to state associations until they submit a written resolution that it would adopt the Lodha Committee's recommendations.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke were also required to submit an affidavit of compliance in the Court by December 3, elaborating on the recommendations that were already implemented and the steps taken to persuade the member associations to adopt the recommendations in total. The hearing that was scheduled to take place on December 5 is now moved to December 9, since Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur, who is a part of the Supreme Court's hearing bench, is unwell.

Last week, the BCCI held a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai where it opposed some of the reforms including the age cap of 70 for the Board members, cooling-off period of three years between terms, and the ‘one state, one vote’ policy. Now, they will have to wait for the verdict on the matter until December 9. On the other hand, the Lodha Committee has asked for the appointment of former union Home Secretary GK Pillai as observer and removal of all BCCI office bearers.
