Pakistan cricket team announced Sarfraz Ahmed as the new T20 captain on Tuesday, two days after Shahid Afridi relinquished the captaincy. Sarfraz Ahmed, who was given the vice-captaincy for both the ODI and T20 teams only in 2015, will now lead the side in the shortest format of the game.

The Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the reins of captaincy to the 28-year old after a dismal World T20 and Asia Cup, where Pakistan managed to win only three of their eight games, and failed to qualify for the knockouts in either of the competitions. “I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position. His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role,” said Shahryar Khan about the 28-year old wicket-keeper batsman.Sarfraz Ahmed has a batting average of 29.10 and Pakistan would be hoping he leads from the front, not just with the bat but also with new ideas on the table.
