India’s top shuttlers decided to not to participate in the German Open so that they can prepare for the upcoming All England Open and as a result, only a handful of Indian players participated in the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.
On Thursday, the hope of the country in the tournament ended as India’s top mixed doubles pair of Chopra and Reddy ended their campaign in the second round after they failed to cross the Thai hurdle. Tinn Isriyanet and Pacharapun Chochuwong handed them a 21-18, 21-19 loss in a 37-minute encounter at the Innogy Sporthalle in Mulheim-An-Der-Rhur, Germany.
Before the mixed doubles clash, it was Subhankar Dey whose defeat had ended India’s hopes of a singles title as he failed to put up a strong enough display against fourth seeded Chou Tien Chen in the second round. It was a one-sided game for Chen who entered the next round with a dominant 21-7, 21-6 performance and completed the game in less than half an hour.
